Mining and formal employment According to a study published on the website of the newspaper Gestión, 57% of the population of central Peru benefits from mining thanks to the generation of formal employment.
A total of 1.4 million people benefit directly and indirectly from mining activity through jobs generated by the sector, according to a report generated by the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru and the Center for Competitiveness and Development.
In addition, the same study shows that, in the case of Pasco, 90% of the population benefits from the employment generated by the activity, while in Junín, the impact reaches 53% of the citizenry.
Mining activity plays a very important role for the Peruvian economy since it generates added value and contributes, on average, 10% to the gross domestic product (GDP), in addition to generating higher foreign exchange and tax revenues.
Added to this is the creation of direct and indirect jobs, and the improvement of the potential growth of economic activity. In the case of Lima, where the provinces of Barranca, Cajatambo, Canta, Cañete, Huaral, Huarochirí, Huaura, Oyón and Yauyos are considered, the benefit is for 54% of the inhabitants of the region.
